Mental Health Therapist

Matthew Tansy, M.S., is a dedicated mental health therapist based in our Danville, Illinois clinic, providing services to individuals aged 5 and up. His academic journey includes a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a M.S. in Counseling from Eastern Illinois University.

Matthew’s passion for counseling was ignited at the age of 18, during a challenging time in his life. It was the transformative power of counseling that helped him navigate this period, inspiring him to dedicate his life to the profession.

In his practice, Matthew primarily adopts a person-centered approach, supplemented with techniques from solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness exercises, and other counseling theories to cater to the unique needs of each client. He is also skilled in various play therapy techniques suitable for all ages, such as sand tray therapy, cognitive behavioral play therapy, and creative expression.

Matthew takes pride in serving a diverse clientele, with a special interest in working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, members of the LGBTQ community, and children over the age of five. His goal is to cultivate a safe, welcoming, and growth-oriented space for all his clients.

Outside of his professional life, Matthew is an avid video game enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Minecraft. He also enjoys board games and often integrates them into his therapeutic practice. An animal lover at heart, Matthew has a special affection for dogs, cats, and penguins.
