Sarah E. Swims, M.A., LPC

Mental Health Therapist

Sarah E. Swims, M.A., LPC is a mental health therapist at our Champaign office. Sarah invites you to show up as you are and partner with her in your personal journey. In August of 2022, she received her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. Sarah works with individuals aged 6 and older. Sarah desires to create a safe space for others to heal, and learn ways to trust and reconnect with themselves.

History

Sarah has worked in mental health since 2011 when she completed an undergrad internship at a psychosocial rehabilitation program and fell in love with the field. Prior to counseling, she most recently served as the Program Director at a private residential facility for teen girls.

What It Is Like Working With Sarah

Sarah has a person-centered, relational, and eclectic style for counseling. She believes building rapport and trust is the cornerstone for getting to some of the tougher issues. She tries to give clients something they can take with them after a session (like a certain coping technique to practice), especially in the beginning when things can feel overwhelming. Once her clients are comfortable, she utilizes tools such as practicing emotional regulation, role playing, etc. and integrating other techniques like art, ego state, EMDR--whatever the client needs most at that time.

Sarah’s Message to Clients

“I believe in the power you have to make changes, and I am committed to partnering with you to get to where you want to be in life. Whether you battle anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems or addiction, we'll work to build skills for healthy and holistic living.”

Other Passions

Recently, Sarah started as an adjunct at Parkland and loves it. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, dabbling in graphic design, nature, and spending time with her two daughters.
