Transition

During the month of October, I chose to create classes around the theme of being in transition. Taking notes from my YouTube yoga guru, Adriene Mishler, I enjoy being able to choose a word and create classes that support it. I am transitioning into the role of being a yoga teacher during one of the most beautiful months where nature is preparing for winter. I feel that October is the first month where Autumn is truly felt. The air is consistently cooler, leaves are changing colors, and there is excitement about the upcoming Holiday season. There is a felt shift from the summer months.

Nourish Ourselves
Yoga can help us to nourish ourselves during times of transition. Whether it be the seasons changing, moving jobs, losing a loved one, going back to school, or just getting out of bed in the morning. We take ourselves wherever we go. We take our conditioned thoughts, our potentially easily activated nervous systems, our pain, our memories and joy. It is all inside of us at any point and yoga invites us to ask ourselves how we are holding it. How are we holding ourselves during difficult times or periods where it feels unsteady?

What to Anticipate This Month
This month you can anticipate classes that are grounding, nourishing, and soothing. I will take you through poses that invite you to lean into your internal and physical foundation to promote feeling secure and stable despite what the new season may bring. There will be breath work practices that can assist in clearing out what is no longer serving you. At then end of each class there will be a guided meditation and progressive muscle relaxation.

A Final Note From Molly

Thank you for taking time to read this. Before transitioning to your next task, I invite you to take 2 minutes to close your eyes, place your hand on your heart and take a deep breath in. As you inhale sit up a little bit taller through your spine and allow your belly to soften and expand. Try to make your exhale slightly longer than your in breath. Slowly breathe out while softening and releasing tension from your forehead, jaw, neck and shoulders.

UBUNTU WOMEN'S INITIATIVE

One class a month will be specifically designed to promote overall women’s health. We will focus on relaxing the pelvic floor, relieving menstrual cramps, and regulating energy. Your money paid for this class will be donated to The Nourish Foundation, specifically their women’s livelihood development program, Ubuntu Women. Ubuntu is an African philosophy that speaks to compassion and humanity at its very core. I am because you are. Nourish foundation was founded in 2011 by my sister-in-law, Sarah Bergs. It is located in rural South Africa and assists women in having access to sanitary pads so they do not have to miss school or work, or use other non-sanitary items such as newspaper or leaves. Nourish “believes every girl has the right to develop confidence, have positive self esteem and feel safe in her village. Through this project we create a space where girls are supported through a series of programs around sexual health, menstruation, confidence and self defense.”
