Hidden Health Benefits Your Insurance May Already Cover

Hi there! My name is Trinity, and I work in medical billing here at Two Roads Wellness Clinic. I was born and raised right here in Danville, Illinois, and I graduated from Danville Area Community College with a degree in Health Information Technology, plus certificates in medical coding, billing, and quality assurance. I’m also a Registered Health Information Technician, which is just a fancy way of saying I spend a lot of time helping patients make sense of their insurance and medical information.

Two Roads gave me the opportunity of a lifetime by hiring me right before graduation, and now I get to do what I love every day, with amazing coworkers, a supportive company, and (best of all) wonderful patients like you!

Now, as a medical biller, I’m the person who helps when those confusing medical bills pop up or when insurance seems to be speaking its own secret language. But here’s the thing, a lot of people miss out on benefits they already have because they just don’t know what’s covered.

And no, I’m not talking about the free tissues in the waiting room (though those are a nice touch). I’m talking about real, valuable health services that your insurance may already cover, often at little to no cost to you!

Here are just a few “hidden” benefits I see all the time:

●  Annual wellness visits: These are often covered 100%, and they’re a great way to catch small issues before they become big ones. Think of it as your yearly “health tune-up.”

●  Preventive screenings: These are usually covered with no copay. It’s like your insurance giving you a free heads-up on your health.

●  Mental health services: Many plans now include therapy or counseling sessions, especially with recent updates to behavioral health coverage. Mental health matters just as much as physical health!

Even I’ve had those moments where I’ve looked at my own insurance and thought, Wait... that’s covered? It’s a great feeling to realize you can take care of yourself without worrying about surprise costs. Sometimes all it takes is a quick call or checking your benefits online to find out you have more support than you realized.

Here’s the big takeaway: You’re already paying for these benefits through your monthly premium. The best way to get your money’s worth is to ask questions, review your benefits summary, or talk to someone in your provider’s office — like me!

A quick call or message to the billing department can help uncover services you didn’t even know you had access to. Health insurance can feel confusing, but it doesn’t have to be a mystery. So next time you’re at your appointment, don’t be afraid to ask, “Hey, is this covered?” Because chances are... you might be more covered than you think.
