Kate Birlingmair, LSW
Individual, Couples, and Family Counselor
Hi there! My name is Kate, and I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) who earned my Master's in Social Work (MSW) from Illinois State University. I am a mental health therapist at our Mahomet clinic.
How I can support you…
My passion is supporting individuals ages 17 and older through individual counseling. During our sessions, I use a combination of treatment modalities, including person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and exposure therapy. I also use motivational interviewing techniques, which helps us explore your motivations and reasons for change in therapy. I support individuals struggling with anxiety, social anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship struggles, and those navigating grief, navigating health issues, or other life transitions.
I strive to create a safe, supportive space where therapy is a place for self-exploration. I create a space where all emotions are welcome- whether that’s a good cry, laughter, anger, or reflection. I have a deep awareness that physical health and mental health are interconnected.
I understand and strive for therapy to be a collaborative process, so I will frequently touch base to see what is working for you and how we could adjust our treatment modalities as needed. While I don’t specifically provide Christian-focused therapy, I respect your religious beliefs and encourage you to bring them into our conversations if they feel helpful to your growth.
I am also bilingual in Spanish and can provide a session using the Spanish language to clients who prefer.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and I’m here to support you throughout this process. I look forward to working together toward your personal growth and mental health goals.
For Fun
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, playing pickleball, doing yoga, exercising, visiting coffee shops, and listening to various types of music and podcasts.
