Mental Health Intern

Corey Callison is an intern at our Danville office. He earned his B.S. in Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is now pursuing his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Illinois University.

He specialized in Ethology, the study of animal behavior, during his undergraduate studies in hopes of securing a job working with wildlife. However, after several years of working in the field, he realized that understanding human behavior was his true passion and began his work helping others at a local Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center.

Approach to Therapy

His approach is heavily influenced by DBT and ACT, focusing on mindfulness and acknowledging the complexities behind each person and the problems they are facing. Coming from the research field, he recognizes the importance of curiosity, nuance, and keeping an open mind. With every client he aims to collaboratively create a safe, nonjudgemental space where they are free to explore who they are, try out new perspectives, and feel empowered in expressing themselves.

Corey is a member of the queer community and is interested in working with LGBTQIA+ clients of all backgrounds. He is also passionate about working with people with chronic illnesses, depression, anxiety, and anyone that is looking for some help navigating life.

For Fun

In his day-to-day life, Corey enjoys gardening, cooking, video games, and going to concerts. Him and his dog, Mayhem (Ham for short), both enjoying going on hikes through nature and working on projects around the house.
